How I record my guitar

Hello,

Welcome to my guide on how I record my guitar like this.

First of all here are the things I use in the majority of my videos.:

  • A Pod X3 Live
  • 2 guitar cables
  • some headphones
  • Audacity

The First thing I do Is get my Pod x3 live turn it on and then plug it into the computer via USB.

I then open up Audacity if you do not have audacity download it from this link: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ It is completely free and very easy to use.

Next I press ctrl and P to open up the preferences window, within this window I highlight the following settings ... these ensure the backing track plays out my headphones and anything I record can be heard.. allowing me to multi-track.

The next thing I do is prepare myself by warming my hands up and then finaly pressing record in audacity ( the big red button ) If done right you should see sound waves like this.

finally you can highlight your selection and add effects like compression reverb etc.. I reccomend to add a few effects to make your track fit more nicely in the mix.

I hope this cleared everything up .. Dont worry if you dont have a pod x3 live .. You can do the same with any amp etc .. as long as it has a headphone port if it does take a cable and plug it into the headphones of your amp / effects board and then plug the other end into the microphone port on your computer.

Finally change the input on audacity ( by pressing Ctrl and P )

I Hope I helped you if you have any more questions leave them in the comments

Carlo
